Question 4

At first glance of this piece by Magritte, people would think that it is a pipe they see. However under it, it reads “This is not a pipe” in French. What Magritte is trying to say is that the image is more than just a pipe. It has underlying meanings, such as that it signifies high class and wealth. Magritte wants his audience to think about what they are seeing.
